Carol Silldorff, Executive Director
Carol Silldorff became the Executive Director of Bike Maryland (BMD) in 2008 after serving as the Executive Director and as a consultant for the organization (then called One Less Car). She is one of the founders of Bike Maryland and passionately works to encourage and promote bicycling, increase safety, improve conditions and provide a voice for all bicyclists. Carol has worked on a variety of successful legislative campaigns. In the past 3 years, she focused on state pro-bike and transportation bills - seven of which became law in Maryland. Two of the bills she is most proud of are the passage of the three foot rule and the criminal negligence bill. "There are now higher penalties and potential jail time for drivers who cause fatalities." She also promotes pro-bike legislation on the local level throughout Maryland. She especially enjoys working with business, universities and communities throughout Maryland to increase bike-ability and directing programs to increase safety for youth and adult bicyclists. "We partner with dozens of individuals, clubs, non-profits, corporations, and city and county agencies throughout Maryland to increase the number of bicyclists and increase safety for the bicyclist!” Carol has been an active bicyclist for most of her life (a bike commuter, casual touring rider, previous road and RAAM racer, mountain biker and scenic trail enthusiast). “Promoting bicycling is satisfying work as bicycling ultimately reduces automobile travel and pollution, has a positive economic impact and betters the health of individuals, our communities and the planet.”
Carol has a Graduate Degree in Public Administration with a Specialization in Environmental Management from the University of DE. She has a long history of working in the field of public administration and environmental compliance. As a graduate student she was awarded a legislative fellowship and worked for the Delaware Senate Natural Resources Committee. This position gave her a head start in the field of advocacy. During her career she has worked on environmental sustainability issues for non-profit organizations, federal, state and local government agencies and both small and fortune 500 businesses. She currently is a member of the State Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, the Baltimore County Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission and the Baltimore City B'More Streets Committee. Katie Gore, Bike Maryland Bike-MINDED Program Coordinator
Katie performs fun, social and educational bike safety workshops for youth in Baltimore City. Additionally, she leads bicycle commuter workshops for adults throughout Maryland. Katie was a Parks and Recreation Leader in the Minneapolis Park system and studied Early Childhood Education at The University of Minnesota and Towson University. She is the Director for the Trails End Mountain Bike Camp for kids ages 12-16. She loves mountain biking and road cycling and would hate to have to choose between the two. " I have seen a positive change in the acceptance of cycling in Maryland over the past three years and realize it is only the beginning. I know bicycle safety is one of the key components in helping Maryland become a top Bike Friendly State. The earlier we teach our children good riding habits - the earlier we expose them to responsible ways to ride - the greater chance for those lessons to become a life foundation for bicycling as a means of commuting and for recreation." Please contact Katie via email here if you would like to schedule a Bike Maryland Youth Rodeo, Adult Commuter workshop, volunteer, become a Bike Ambassador or partner with Bike Maryland.
